Bill Guthrie is founder, inventor and patent holder of the hurricane screen. He started his interest in the fenestration business in Ohio when he was a child working in his father’s family window business. He continued to help build the company to a multi-million dollar business. He then ventured out on his own and created Select Manufacturing to manufacture security screens for colleges, commercial housing and residential. He frequently traveled down to Florida and sold several screens to many different areas. . After visiting Charleston, South Carolina in the after math of Hugo, he realized his product could be the answer to protecting openings. He knew he had the best screen in the industry and decided to prove it with the most stringent test in the industry. This was the Miami-Dade County Impact Test. He then transferred to Florida in 1999 with AAPC to sell and manufacture his product and then worked briefly with a corporation out of Cleveland. He decided to create his own company and redesigned his original screen and made it stronger, safer and more aesthetically pleasing.
